Sixth Grade

Reading

Your child will demonstrate comprehension of fiction and non-fiction; learn to determine and clarify the meaning of unknown & multiple meaning words; learn to use Greek or Latin affixes as clues to the meaning of the word.

 

Math

Your child will demonstrate reasoning about multiplication & division to solve ratios and rate problems; and learn to use variables in math expressions.

Class Structure

Every Monday and Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm your child will receive:

  • Tactics on learning to track story structure, plot, and character development.

  • Use close reading strategies that encompass summarizing, paraphrasing, and annotating.

  • Read a wide variety of texts, including a variety of styles, genres, literary periods, authors, perspectives, and subjects, which are not limited to non-fiction and narratives.

  • Word decoding.

  • Techniques on how to use variables in math expressions.

  • Skills that will promote fluency in rational and irrational numbers.

4:00pm-4:30pm                               Teacher-led classroom instruction

4:30pm-5:00pm                               Independent Learning/Quiet activities

5:00pm-5:10pm                               Snack

5:10pm-5:40pm                               Teacher Student games

5:40pm-6:00pm                               Teacher Student hands on activities.
